Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was a leading figure of the Pop Art movement and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Born in Pittsburgh, he moved to New York in 1949, where he first established a successful career as a commercial illustrator before turning to fine art in the early 1960s.
Warhol transformed familiar images from American consumer culture—including Campbell’s Soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles and portraits of celebrities—into iconic works of art. His use of photographic silkscreen allowed him to reproduce images repeatedly, embracing the visual language of advertising and mass production while experimenting with colour, repetition and composition.
Beyond painting and printmaking, Warhol worked across photography, film, publishing, music and television. Through his Factory studio and his fascination with celebrity and popular culture, he blurred the boundaries between art, commerce and everyday life, leaving a lasting influence on contemporary art.
