In his work, Craig Costello explores the materiality and excess of paint and ink, in a unique approach to the creative process. The artist captures the interplay between control and the uncontrollable, and employs an array of techniques such as pouring, spraying, and dripping.
“Untitled” is a 4-color screenprint inspired by the 2023 painting “Untitled”, which was part of the exhibition “New Work” at Isetan the Space, Shinjuku, Tokyo.
While gestures and movements are deliberate in guiding the development of his work, Costello also allows it to take on a life of its own, inviting the paint and ink to splatter and drip freely, creating forms that are both organic and unpredictable. This balance between perfection and imperfection is evident in this work, featuring loose and irregular forms that embrace the imperfections of the painting process.
