The last time I was in Paris was 2019. I was there for the Urban Art Fair and I painted a mural in Champigny-sur-Marne. After the mural was done we were driving back and we could see the smoke billowing from Paris. We pulled over at the Seine and watched in sadness as Notre Dame burned and the city cried.
When planning my trip to France to create the art for this release I came across this passage by Victor Hugo and the news that Notre Dame will be reopening soon. I decided to have my protagonist become Quasimodo. I wanted him to ring the bell in celebration of the reopening of this masterpiece of architecture and the heart to so many in France and the world.
“L’amour est un arbre qui grandit tout seul; il enfonce ses racines profondément dans notre être, et souvent continue à verdir sur un coeur en ruines.” Translated to English, it becomes: “Love is a tree that grows of itself; it sends its roots deep into our being, and often continues to grow green over a heart in ruins.”
