Daniel Arsham (b. 1980) is a renowned American visual artist whose work prominently features themes of architecture. His creations often depict environments with eroded walls, stairs leading to nowhere or landscapes where nature reclaims human structures, all imbued with a sense of playfulness. Arsham’s practice spans across film, painting, sculpture and installation, employing elements of architecture and performance to transform recognizable forms into corroded, calcified, or glitched-out artefacts. He frequently manipulates gallery spaces themselves to achieve his desired effect.
His work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions worldwide, including PS1 in New York, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, The Athens Biennale in Greece, The New Museum in New York, Mills College Art Museum in California, and Carré d’Art de Nîmes in France. Notably, two comprehensive monographs of Arsham’s work have been published by the French Centre National des arts plastiques and Galerie Perrotin, showcasing the depth and breadth of his artistic vision. With multiple representations in global art centers like Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, Los Angeles, São Paulo, London, and Amsterdam, Daniel Arsham continues to captivate audiences with his boundary-pushing artistic expressions.
In 2007, Arsham co-founded Snarkitecture, a collaborative platform that has since produced groundbreaking work in fashion, interior architecture, and functional design objects. His diverse creative endeavors also include the establishment of a film company called Films of the Future. Arsham also forged numerous successful collaborations with renowned fashion brands such as Tiffany, Adidas, Dior, Toraichi, Byredo, Rimowa, and Porsche.
