I am delighted with the result of the lithographs. I consider that working at IDEM is a real privilege, it’s a mythical place full of history. Masters came to work here, Picasso came to work here, for example, David Lynch also comes here regularly. In fact, being able to work here is really a chance. I must say that I’m astonished by the result of the lithograph, I didn’t think it would be possible to reproduce perfectly some chemical effects that I had in my original artwork. To be honest I am more than happy with the result.
The artwork “Blue Velvet” highlights the work that I develop in the studio alone. I chose to develop a very calligraphic work specialized around tools, ink and the meeting between traditional tools and contemporary graffiti tools. What I chose to lithograph is one of the last painting I created. This is the repetition of my name on a canvas with a graphic structure : there are 3 lines that stand out. From this base I do chemical operations, I rely a lot on the mechanic of fluids to create something I control, and, at the same time, escapes to me. What interests me is the result of these two dynamics.
I gave you a piece called “Blue Velvet” which is a reference to David Lynch’s famous movie “Blue Velvet”, which dates back to 1986 and marked my adolescence. It’s funny that we printed this lithograph « Blue Velvet » where David Lynch is coming to work when he is in Paris. It’s an happy coincidence.
