Half Vultingo is a standout work from Bordalo II’s Half and Half series, created in 2018. This series explores duality through animal portraits split into two distinct visual approaches: one half crafted from colorful, recycled materials, the other rendered in muted, monochromatic tones.

In Half Vultingo, the artist uses salvaged plastics, metal, and industrial scraps to form the vibrant side of the bird, emphasizing life, color, and resilience. In contrast, the subdued half suggests environmental degradation, loss, or the impact of human interference on natural ecosystems.

This contrast lies at the heart of Bordalo II’s message—raising awareness about pollution, waste, and the fragile state of wildlife. Through striking form and material contrast, Half Vultingo serves as both sculpture and statement, inviting viewers to reflect on the balance between destruction and regeneration.

Bordalo II

Artur Bordalo (b. 1987, Lisbon), known artistically as Bordalo II, adopted his name in tribute to his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo—honoring his legacy while forging a bold new path. Raised between the world of traditional painting and the raw energy of Lisbon’s graffiti scene, Bordalo II developed a visual language that bridges fine art and street rebellion.

Though he spent eight years in the Painting program at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, he ultimately left without a degree—choosing instead to explore sculpture, ceramics, and the creative potential of found materials. Public space soon became his true canvas: a place to scale up, speak out, and connect with a global audience.

Today, Bordalo II is internationally known for his vivid, large-scale sculptures made entirely from trash. Discarded plastics, scrap metal, and industrial debris are reimagined as striking animal forms—both playful and haunting. These works serve as urgent environmental commentary, confronting viewers with the consequences of consumerism and ecological neglect.

From Lisbon to Los Angeles, his installations are not just art—they’re a call to awareness, a challenge to waste, and a reminder that transformation is possible.
