“Paintings interacting with the Urban landscape, architecture and environment have always been an important part of my work. ’Composition with Red Blue and Yellow’ follows a similar concept only here interaction is created by juxtaposing two different styles of painting. The structured geometric patterning of Mondrian is distorted by figurative oil painting and chaotic spray can strokes, exploring the dimensions and balance of various painting styles and mediums. This print along with the series of studio work is inspired by the mural done earlier this year for the Living Walls conference in Atlanta.” Ernest Zacharevic
“En avant les histoires !” This famous French advertising slogan (inciting children to invent an adventure story with Playmobil toys) is a maxim that certainly illustrates Ernest Zacharevic’s art. But these particular stories are full of derision, denunciation and humor. And always use playful childish vocabulary.
Playmobil figures, slides, dinosaurs or Tom and Jerry join forces, exploiting their universal fame to denounce child labor or the consumer society. An association that only Ernest Zacharevic handles with such finesse and precision. His portraits with their subtle features and captivating authenticity provoke a surprising plethora of emotions. And always with the same visual effect of an ageing, sanded work, worn and embellished by time.
