This lithograph I called it “Cloud”, but in reality, to me it doesn’t represent just a cloud, a simple cloud, on the contrary, it means the universe. It’s a kind of remix of the sky, of the sun, of the moon and of the moving clouds. That is what this lithograph is about, according to me.

Jan Kaláb

Jan Kaláb is a Czech contemporary artist born in 1978. In the 1990s, as the country was opening itself to the artistic influences of the western world, Jan Kaláb, became a pioneer of the local graffiti scene. Under the name of “Cake”, he started tagging walls of his hometown with his crew DSK. Then, he moved to European cities to finally hit the streets of New York where he made a big impression painting whole subway cars in the 2000s.

His work never stops to evolve, in the early 2000s, under the name of “Point”, he turns towards a new form of graffiti, the 3-D graffiti. He started sculpting huge abstract letters, which he then placed on the streets and against the walls. A deviation from the traditional graffiti that leads him to the path of abstraction. With the time, the work of Jan Kaláb became more and more geometric almost psychedelic. He plays with colorful squares and circles to depict and explore notions of depth, time and motion in his artworks.

He had his first solo exhibition in Prague in 2008, followed by many others solo show in France, Italy, Germany, UK, Colombia, Argentina and in the United States. His geometric murals can also be seen in the streets of Prague, London or Bogota.
