This lithograph has been made in collaboration with the famous Swiss model Julie Ordon and the French photographer Vincent Edmond Louis.

“A portrait of a beautiful girl… always pleasant to admire a beautiful girl. But, in the end, the face is not that important, since, if you concentrate on the eyes, they can say and express everything. Because, when you see the eyes, you can see inside the person.” Rafael Sliks invites us to think about the eyes, the vision and the communication an artist, a model and a spectator can actually create.

It’s a mix between seeing and being seen, through photo reproduction technique which helps to create a realist interaction between the model, Julie Ordon, and the spectator while the graffiti – Silks’ signature – reminds us that there is art, in between, us, and her. The hat gives a street artistic touch to the model which blends perfectly with the graffiti. Street art, graffiti, contemporary art, modelling: what do you see exactly ? What Rafael Sliks let you see, in the end ?

For this special lithograph Rafael Sliks revisits Vincent Edmond Louis’ photography by adding his graffiti signature with a series of loops reminding us hieroglyphs calligraphy.

Rafael Sliks

The graffiti painter Rafael Sliks was born in São Paulo in Brazil. His study of calligraphy influenced his art : his graffiti signature creates a new aesthetic to reproduce and give birth to new artwork in murals, door or pictures. His abstract artworks highlight different types of lines to make people travelling through his universe made by calligraphy, colors and textures. Writing is his art. Writing is his way to express, denounce, communicate and create beauty. All his graffiti can be seen in São Paulo’s streets, exhibitions in Miami, Berlin, Taiwan and many other places.

Sliks’ artistic universe reflects the tension between the physical chaos present in urban areas and the spiritual introspection he experiences in nature. Both being his main sources of inspiration, Rafael Sliks’ art seeks to harmonize and reconcile cities and nature in a single movement, mixing the colors and vision of nature with the ultra-fast movements of his graffiti skills, and vice-versa. Blurring the lines. Ambivalence.

The art of Rafael Sliks originates in graffiti for which he has developed a renowned style made of fatcapped tags and throw-ups. His indoor work is fueled by colour, repetition and overlapping tags, creating visual enigmas and infinite expanses of universe.
